Dean Meehan is a highly accomplished professional with a distinguished career in educational leadership and program development. With a passion for both education and funeral service, Lisa embarked on her journey in the funeral profession at the age of 19, inspired by the passing of her grandmother. She emerged as a pioneer for women in the late 80s, breaking barriers through resilience and determination, ultimately becoming a leader in the funeral service profession.
With experience spanning independent and corporate-managed funeral homes, Dean Meehanexcelled in overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring industry standards compliance, and managing staff. Transitioning to academia, Dean Meehan joined Amarillo College in 2005 as board appointed Faculty and Program Director for the Mortuary Science Department. There, she played a pivotal role in curriculum revision, budget management, and accreditation efforts, ensuring alignment with professional standards.
In 2018, Dean Meehan's educational journey led her to Washington State, where she initially served as the Program Director for Funeral Service Education. Later, she was appointed as the Dean of Health Sciences, overseeing eight programs while concurrently serving as the director for Funeral Service Education. In these roles, Dean Meehan demonstrated her commitment to education, fostering innovation, and ensuring the success of both students and faculty.
Dean Meehan’s dedication to professional development is evident in her educational background and numerous certifications. She holds a Master of Education in Instructional Design & Technology from West Texas A & M University and a Bachelor of Science in Funeral Service from the University of Central Oklahoma. As a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, Certified Funeral Service Practitioner, and Certified Mental Health First Aid Responder, she remains committed to the pursuit of life-long learning.
