The compensation package includes an annual salary of 50K, plus removal and embalming bonuses, performance bonuses, 401K with match, target benefit plan pension 100% paid by employer, medical insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO) 70% paid by employer, life insurance 70% paid by employer, disability insurance 100% paid by employer and paid vacation time.  Apprentices have a work schedule which allows for every other weekend off, on-call rotational schedule and a holiday schedule.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Apprentice is accountable for performing a variety of duties with the supervision and direction of a licensed funeral director. Assisting with the preparation and execution of the funeral and memorialization process to ensure services run smoothly and that the expectations of our families and their guests are exceeded.

• Takes 1st call information with compassion and attention to detail.
• Embalms the deceased, including dressing, casketing, and cosmetics.  Coordinates with hairdresser. (We do all our own embalming, dressing & cosmetics.)
• Sets up casket or urn in chapel, adjusts light fixtures, furniture and arranges or supervises arrangement of flowers or plants and family memorabilia.  
• Cues up selected music for visitation and ceremony.  Cues up video tribute.
• Directs and usher families and guests to and from the location of the funeral service.
• Assists in parking lot to coordinate car lists to prepare for hearse procession.
• Transfers cremated remains into their final urn/vessel or vessels of rest. (Jewelry etc)
• Airport Transfers of remains to and from our local airports.
• Works on-call /first call and second as scheduled and needed.
• Maintains cleanliness of vehicles, vans and hearses as needed.
• Performs other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate degree or bachelor’s degree.
• IL Apprentice License or willing to obtain one if out of state.
• Valid state issued driver’s license in good standing and acceptable driving record.
• High degree of overall computer proficiency.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
• Ability to effectively present information to families, co-workers, and ownership.
• Demonstrates a willingness to participate in community involvement to formulate relationships and bonds with church, civic and community members.
