Robert A. Clark was born and raised in Gilmer, Texas, a small northeast Texas town. He graduated from Kilgore College in 1971 with an Associate of Science in Accounting and East Texas State University in 1973 with his Bachelor of Business Administration. He began his career in banking in Dallas before moving back to his hometown to work in a steel manufacturing plant for 10 years.
After having been laid off from work, Robert decided to change careers and came to Dallas to pursue a new career in funeral service. He graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1991 and began his funeral service career at Bates-Cooper-Weems Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. He also worked for Kreig-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home in Bowie, Texas before beginning his teaching career in 1992 back at Dallas Institute.
In 1996, he completed his master’s degree at Amber University. Also, in 1996, he left Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, and became the Program Director of the Funeral Service Program at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, Arkansas. After getting that program up and running, he moved back to east Texas and worked for Memorial Funeral Home in Tyler, Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon and Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield. In 2002, he returned to Dallas Institute to teach.
Mr. Clark currently teaches Accounting, Funeral Service Merchandising, Small Business Management and Computer Applications, Mortuary Law and Texas State Law. He is a member of Texas Funeral Directors Association, East Texas Funeral Directors Association, Dallas County Funeral Directors and National Funeral Directors Association. He also serves as a member of the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service Lions Club. Mr. Clark has been married to his wife Jessie for over 25 years and in his spare time, enjoys spending time with his family and fishing.
